Worth Knowing About Board Games

A board game is fundamentally a game played at a table. It typically involves moving pieces around on a surface or board as described in the accompanying rules. Some board games are strategy games where the goal is to find the best tactics, sometimes with an element of luck, and some board games are purely based on luck. It's very much a matter of temperament which types of board games one prefers, but at Card Collective, we have something for everyone. The earliest board games were typically variations of the same theme: a battle between two armies, with the goal of defeating the opponent's army. We still see this reflected in many modern board games, but today, board games are a more broadly encompassing category, with new ideas constantly being introduced and occasionally turning the concepts upside down.

We have chosen to divide our assortment of board games into subcategories so you can more easily find fun board games that suit your needs.

Family Games: Games that are fun for the whole family and aim very broadly. Typically games where the rules are simple, but the game is complex enough to be a challenge.
Children's Games: Here we have a category with board games specifically aimed at children.
Conversation Games: This type of game combines play and conversation. The purpose of the game is often to start deeper conversations.
Smartgames: This category gathers a lot of games that aim to challenge the player. Here are brain teasers for all age groups.
Card-Based Board Games: Games that center around cards. This category turns the concepts of board games upside down, as you often do not use either pieces or a board in these games.
Strategy Games: In this category, there are board games that often lead to a lot of brain exercise. If you love optimization and planning tactics, then this is the category for you.
Classic Board Games: Here we have the traditional games that never go out of style. Here you can mention games like chess, domino, and backgammon.
Games for Two: Board games that can be played by two players. Here we have both short games, which can be played when the kids are put to bed, but also more complicated strategic games that are challenging and require a bit more time.
Party Games: Games in this category have in common that they are good to play when you are several people together. They are typically more social games, which are good at including everyone in the company.
Adventure and Role-Playing Games: In this type of game, players often act as characters in other universes, where they embark on epic adventures and fight monsters, aliens, or other enemies.
Cooperative Games: In this category, you find games where it's not about winning over each other, but about working together to overcome the challenges you are faced with.
Strategy Games: In this category, there are board games that often lead to a lot of brain exercise. If you love optimization and planning tactics, then this is the category for you.
Quiz Games: Do you have a lot of ready knowledge you'd like to show off? Then this is the right type of game for you. Here it's about being able to answer as many questions as possible.
Escape Room Games: This is a special type of game, where you often work together with other players to solve puzzles.
Accessories for Board Games: Plastic sleeves for cards in your board games, dice, counters, dice towers, etc.
