Role-playing Games

At Card Collective, we have the pen and paper behemoth Dungeons and Dragons, as well as several other role-playing games, which are either based on Dungeons and Dragons or are their very own game. On this page, you can see our products, read more about role-playing games in general, about the individual categories, and hear what we can do for you whether you are new or experienced pen and paper player at Card Collective.

About Role-Playing Games

One of the first role-playing games is Dungeons and Dragons, which dates back to 1974. Dungeons and Dragons is still the biggest name in that category, but since then, many more have been added. Dungeons and Dragons was developed based on the miniature game Chainmail, which is very thematic for its time, with war as a theme, which is also the case for most board games from that time and since the invention of the board game. Pen and Paper is by nature a strategy game, but here each "piece" just has its own backstory and acts from it - and thus becomes what we know as a character, in tabletop role-playing games.

Common for games in the tabletop role-playing category is that they are played at a table, traditionally there has also been a Game Master, who is the person who sets up the game and controls the course of events. Within the role-playing genre, there are many different types of games where pen and paper is just one of them, live role-playing is another type and computer role-playing games. In recent times, there have also been some so-called hybrids between board games and role-playing games, we also have a selection of those at Card Collective, find them here.

Dungeons and Dragons: The first and largest Tabletop Role-Playing Game! The game is now in its 5th edition, which has focused on making it more streamlined and easier to get started with than ever before. The game also offers pre-made campaigns, so you can quickly start playing.

Pathfinder: Pathfinder is a kind of spinoff from Dungeons & Dragons - it started as an expansion, but later got its own rulebook. Pathfinder is more rule-heavy than D&D, but in return offers greater opportunity to create more specialized characters.

Call of Cthulhu RPG: Horror role-playing game based on H.P. Lovecraft's stories. Here you play as investigators in the 1920s USA, who are confronted with the unknown lurking in the dark. Below you will also find pre-written campaigns for 1 person, so you can explore on your own.

Other Role-Playing Games: There are plenty of different role-playing systems focusing on different franchises, time periods, or types of gameplay. You can see and read more about the individual systems here. If you are into futuristic adventures, you can try your hand at Cyberpunk RED or Wrath & Glory. Alternatively, you can experience a darker form of fantasy with The Witcher or Warhammer Fantasy.

Dice and Accessories: We have a large selection of dice and accessories for RPGs that you will find invaluable, whether you're playing D&D, Call of Cthulhu, or any other RPG.

Miniatures: If you want to take your game to new heights, you can start using miniatures to represent monsters and characters. Here you will find, among other things, miniatures from Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures, Reaper Bones, and Frostgrave.
