Strategy Original (Nordic)

Stratego is a two-player game where each player commands an army that attempts to capture the opponent's flag before the enemy captures yours.

Players set up their armies in secret and place their bombs and flag. There are 12 different types of pieces, many of which have unique properties. Once the armies are in place, players take turns moving their armies around.

Stratego is a game where you must use strategy, bluff, and deduction to try to overcome the enemy.

How to play Stratego:

You have two options when it is your turn:

• Attack an opponent's piece
• Move a piece to an empty space

Attack
When a red and blue piece are next to each other, an attack can occur. You do not have to attack if, for example, you know you will lose the battle. The attacker takes their piece, lightly taps the opponent's piece they wish to attack, and states their rank aloud. There are three outcomes of this:

1. The defending piece's rank is lower: Remove the piece from the game and place the attacker in the defending piece's spot
2. The defending piece's rank is higher: Remove the attacking piece, the defending piece remains
3. Same rank: Both pieces are removed from the game

Movement
To be able to attack, you must first move your piece next to an opponent's piece. The following rules apply:

• You may only move one piece per turn
• Bombs and flags cannot be moved
• All pieces can move 1 space forward, backward, or sideways – not diagonally
• The Scout can move in a straight line as above and as many spaces as there are available, and is the only piece that can attack in the same turn as the movement occurs
• Pieces cannot cross the spaces marked with dotted lines on the board
• A piece may not move back and forth on the same two spaces for three consecutive rounds

The player who first attacks the opponent's flag has won.
