In Splendor, you play as jewel merchants, drawing various raw materials that you use to purchase mines, jewels, and gemstones from the center of the table. The cards provide points and permanent resources that are used in the purchase of new cards going forward. This means that the more cards you buy, the easier it is to acquire the expensive cards.
You have the following options on your turn:
Taking chips
The poker chips are colored yellow, green, red, black, blue, and white. These are the normal colors. The yellow poker chips are wild and can be used as if they had one of the other colors.
You may not have more than ten chips on the table in front of you, including the yellow wilds. This means that if you have nine chips, you may draw three and take them to yourself, and then return two chips to the bank.
Buying cards
You pay with your colored chips the number and color indicated in the lower left corner of the cards – shown in small circles
Reserving a card
You may take a card to yourself, along with a gold chip. If you do this, you may not buy other cards, so it is a way to ensure that none of your opponents can buy that card. You may have a maximum of three card reservations with you.
The game continues until a player reaches 15 points, after which everyone gets one last round to make actions - then the winner is the one with the most points.
