What a beautiful day at sea! It was everything you dreamed of when you left the harbor this morning. Unfortunately, the sea is often fickle, and today is no exception. Now you face a series of dangers before you can reach safety! Can you navigate the turbulent waters and return to the harbor with your ship (and your sanity) intact?
In Seas of Strife, originally released as Strife, you must try to avoid winning tricks as best as you can. But you must be cautious, for the suit can change during the game, so you might end up winning a trick after all.
Before the game starts, all cards are dealt evenly among the players. The first player "leads" a single card in a trick, and the other players must follow suit if possible. If players cannot follow, they may play a card of any color - but once they have done so, all subsequent players may play a card of the same suit (or perhaps a third suit if they have none of the first two).
When all players have played cards in the trick, they can see which suit has been played the most. The player who played the highest card in that suit wins the trick. If two or more suits are tied, the highest card counts as the winner.
The game takes place over several rounds until someone reaches the target number of tricks. At that point, the player with the fewest tricks wins.
