In the 1920s, Mr. MacDowell immediately discovered a supernatural presence when he arrived at his new house in Scotland.
He quickly gathered a group of mediums for an extraordinary séance, which they have 7 hours to conduct in order to make contact with the ghost that can help them solve the mystery of the house.
However, the ghost cannot speak, so it communicates with the mediums through visions, which in the game are represented by picture cards. It is now up to the mediums to make sense of the images to help the ghost remember 3 things about its own death: who killed them, where it took place, and with what weapon? The better the mediums work together and guess correctly, the easier it is to catch the perpetrator.
In Mysterium, players aim to solve as many possible murders as there are detectives, ultimately to find the correct one among the possible murders.
Start by drawing possible murderers, crime scenes, and murder weapons. The player playing the ghost randomly draws a murderer, a crime scene, and a murder weapon for each detective.
Each round, the ghost draws a hand of cards and can now distribute these cards as they wish. These cards should help the detectives solve the possible murders that have occurred.
The detectives must first guess a murderer, then a location, and finally a weapon.
The game ends after the 7th round or when the correct murder is solved.
