The only bastion in the harsh northern region of the world stands on the brink of its doom. Besieged by malevolent and mysterious threats on all fronts, Frosthaven needs great warriors and leaders if it is to survive the long winter. Unfortunately, they must make do with you and your party...

Frosthaven is a standalone game set in the same world as its predecessor Gloomhaven, featuring the same award-winning gameplay, along with several new elements that particularly revolve around gathering resources and building structures.

Characters from the original Gloomhaven or Jaws of the Lion are fully compatible to be played in this game, and the 16 new characters from Frosthaven can also be played in the other Gloomhaven games.

Frosthaven is a tactical combat game set in an adventurous fantasy world that is shaped by the players' actions and choices. Players take on the role of individual wandering adventurers, traveling around and completing missions based on their own motivations. Players are forced to work together to achieve their individual goals by clearing out ruins and hunting various enemies, as well as helping friendly creatures.

After each scenario, players must collaboratively decide what the next step will be, which determines how the story progresses. Additionally, each player's character has its own goal to work towards, which can bring a twist to the classic dungeon crawl gameplay when the group's Brute suddenly storms into the next room to grab the chest in front of the other players - thereby putting the entire mission at risk by triggering new enemies.

Each player has a unique deck of cards for their character, which describes what actions they take and when in the initiative order they come. Use them wisely, as some cards become exhausted and can no longer be used in the scenario.

New elements in Frosthaven

Loot - Money is no longer quite as useful, but raw resources are much more valuable. In the heat of battle, players have the opportunity to acquire loot tokens. But instead of gold, you might find herbs that can be used for magical potions, or resources like timber or hides that can be used to construct buildings or useful equipment.

Buildings - Frosthaven stands on the brink of its doom, and you must use your gathered resources to rebuild the town. Each building you construct or upgrade will offer different bonuses or options to the group. Some will increase your town's defense, which is invaluable during an invasion. Others allow you to craft equipment from herbs, resources, or even other equipment. Other buildings may even attract new playable miniatures to the town.

Seasons - As the campaign progresses, you will switch between two seasons, each with its own characteristics. The game begins at the start of summer, where you will encounter events similar to those found in Gloomhaven. But when winter sets in, you should expect things to get much worse! Your enemies will attack, buildings will shut down, and venturing outside will become far more dangerous! You must overcome the threats you can and build your defenses against those you cannot if you are to have a chance of survival.

Puzzles - You may find a small book on your journey, full of strange symbols and images. If you can decipher the book and follow its instructions on the map, you will be rewarded with insights into the strange and dark history of the North Coast. Each page will obscurely lead you to different aspects of the game - an overlooked clue in a scenario, or a detail in a drawing that will guide you to the next part of the story. Only by exploring every nook and cranny of the game will you reach the end of your journey.
