Diplomacy is a cooperative board game filled with negotiation, cunning, and deception. By making deals and alliances, you must expand your empire across Europe before World War I. But be careful, as you make and break agreements, lay treacherous plans, negotiate, and deceive your fellow players - they are doing the same!
In Diplomacy, you must rely on your own cunning and wisdom, not luck or dice, and certainly not your fellow players. It is a surefire winner for those who love political games.
The game is divided into "spring" and "autumn," starting in the spring of 1901.
Each turn has the following phases:
In the Diplomatic phase, players must discuss their plans for the upcoming turns. Alliances are made and strategies laid. This phase usually lasts about 15 minutes. Players can say whatever they want, go to separate rooms for secret conversations, spread rumors, etc.
In the Order Writing phase, players must secretly write their orders for each unit on a piece of paper. All orders must be dated - e.g., "spring 1902" or "autumn 1903." There are 2 types of units in the game, armies and fleets - they are all equally strong.
You can give them the following orders:
After all orders have been announced, players must resolve conflicts, and defeated units must retreat.
When each autumn is over, players must check how many supply centers they control or occupy - as you have as many units as you have supply centers. It should also be noted which units are being removed.
Players who have no supply centers are eliminated from the game, and if a player has 18 or more, they are declared the winner.
