Contents of the Player's Handbook:

  • Character Creation
This is a thorough guide to creating your own characters - everything from race and class to background, character traits, and starting items. Under all backgrounds, there are suggestions for specialties and character traits, both good and bad, so you can easily create a character - if you, for example, need to create a lot of NPCs for your campaign, or if it's your first time being a player.

  • Playing the Game
This section gives you an overview of how to play D&D - What ability scores are and how they work, when you have advantage and disadvantage, what a proficiency bonus is, and how to use your character's abilities and when and how to make saving throws.

  • The Rules of Magic
This section delves into how spells and cantrips work in D&D as there are some very specific rules regarding them compared to other abilities. This is also where you will find lists of all the spells and cantrips included in the game, categorized by class and level, so you can easily find a spell for your level 10 bard.

  • Conditions
Here you will find a list of all the conditions you can have in D&D, and what it means for you. What can you do while you are grappled, for example? And what does it mean to have 2 levels of exhaustion? These are the kinds of questions this section answers.

  • Gods of the Multiverse
This section deals with gods, what they stand for, and what you can use them for. Many classes must choose a patron they worship, and it is up to you to decide how and why your character worships that particular god, and whether it has any significance for their personality and how they interact with others.

  • Creature statistics
This section contains a basic list of creatures you can encounter in the D&D world, along with their size, stats, challenge rating, and abilities - this can be useful if you are a Dungeon master planning an encounter, or if you are a druid choosing which animal to transform into - it can even be used to select which familiar you would like to have.

At the back of the book, you will find 3 character sheets so you can get started on creating your characters.

Are you ready to challenge fate?
