The Mummy's Curse is the second expansion for Clank!, and this time the adventure takes you under the pyramids, where the adventurers try to run off with the treasures that the tomb's guardians still watch over.
Clank! The Mummy's Curse includes a new double-sided board, so there are two new paths to run through in the hunt for treasures. The board also comes with a number of cards, markers, and pieces tailored to the board and the game's theme, so you can face mummies and curses along the way.
Grab your thieving gear and head towards the dragon's castle. Clank! is a deck builder where you move through a dungeon beneath the castle to steal the best loot to be crowned the master thief of them all.
Inside the castle, you'll find a lot of loot – that is, valuable treasures. The most important of them – the artifacts – can all be seen from the start, but there are many more treasures than that, and they are only revealed when you land on the space they occupy. The most valuable artifacts are hidden deep within the cave systems, while those closest to the entrance are worth somewhat less.
Therefore, you want to get into the dungeon quickly (and deeply), but when you run fast, you make more noise. And when you make noise, there’s a greater chance that the dragon will come after you. The castle is inhabited by a dangerous dragon that does not want the nimble thieves to take all its hard-earned treasures.
Every time you make noise, you generate “Clank!” – small cubes in your player color, which are placed on a “CLANK!” space – and when the dragon attacks, you take all the cubes from the space and put them in a dragon bag. The bag is shaken, and then two cubes are drawn from the bag. Every time an artifact is taken (or you find one of the dragon's eggs as loot), you draw more cubes when the dragon attacks. If cubes in your player color are drawn, you lose life points – you can lose 10 of them before you are dead.
If you die in the caves beneath the castle, that’s just too bad – the dragon eats you and takes its treasures back. If you die in the castle itself, the dragon cannot get up there, and you are instead pulled out by the villagers. But if you survive and make it all the way out? Yes, then you get a “Master token,” which is worth 20 points – and in a game where you easily end up with around 100 points, 20 extra points is a lot in the end.
When the first player has made it out, a countdown begins. The dragon gets angry and attacks every round – until it, after five rounds, just kills everyone who might be left. The winner is the one who has brought the most valuable loot and gold out of the cave system.
