In Black Forest, you start with a small territory that craves new buildings and livestock. As the lord of the domain, you travel from village to village to recruit the best specialists. By utilizing the unique abilities of the specialists, you can gather resources, lay down new landscape fields such as ponds and fields, and construct a wide range of buildings across four different categories. It’s about choosing the right buildings, placing the landscapes strategically, initiating glass production, and gradually expanding your kingdom.
The game brings back Uwe Rosenberg's famous resource wheel, known from the classic Glass Road (2013), into play. On your own game board, two resource wheels keep track of your materials and production, adding a tactical layer that requires careful planning.
Black Forest continues the story from Glass Road and takes place – as the name suggests – in the legendary Black Forest. The biggest difference between the two games is that Black Forest uses worker placement mechanics instead of simultaneous action, which opens up new strategic possibilities.
With a wide variety of buildings, each providing different advantages, there are many paths to victory. It is a game for strategic players who love to optimize, plan, and fully utilize resources.
In short:
Strategy game by Uwe Rosenberg
Unique resource wheels for managing materials
Worker placement with great variation in buildings and strategies
