In the 1930s, the exploitation of fossil-based resources was pushed to the limit, and now only the unlimited hydropower provided by rivers can quench the hunger of the giant machines.
Barrage is a resource management strategy game where players compete to build majestic dams, gain larger storage capacity, and deliver enough power through pressure tunnels to the energy turbines on the other side.
Each player is one of 4 international companies that gather machines, innovative patents, and skilled engineers who will try to claim the best locations and utilize the water as efficiently as possible.
Barrage features two innovative and challenging gameplay mechanics. First, players must plan their actions and manage their machines, as both their action tokens and resources are stored on a Construction Wheel, and are only available once they have been on the wheel for a full turn. The better you are at planning and using the wheel, the faster you will get resources and actions back.
Secondly, the water flow is a shared and contested resource. Players must collect and store as much water as they can, build dams and gradually make them higher, and construct long tunnels to get the water into their power plants. However, the water is never used up - it is solely used to produce energy and then released back into the rivers - so you must strategically place your dams to get the most out of them.
Over the course of 5 rounds, players must meet certain power requirements represented by a power track, as well as fulfill specific tasks for personal contacts. At the same time, you must place your engineers to improve your machines and gain new and more efficient construction actions.
