In The Resistance: Avalon, heroes and villains fight against each other for the future of civilization. Arthur represents Britain's future, a promise of prosperity and honor, yet Mordred's ruthless henchmen are hidden among his brave warriors. They are few in number but all know each other and remain hidden from everyone except one of Arthur's servants.

Merlin alone knows the agents of evil, but he can only speak of them in riddles. If his true identity is discovered, everything will be lost.

The Resistance: Avalon is a standalone game, and although The Resistance is not required to play, the games are compatible and can be combined with each other.

How to play Avalon:

The game consists of several rounds, each having a team-building phase and a quest phase.

In the team-building phase, it is time for big decisions and strong leaders. Not all knights and ladies of Avalon are loyal to Arthur. If you keep your eyes and ears open, Merlin's wise counsel can help guide a decision.

After appropriate discussion, the leader takes the necessary number of tokens and assigns tokens to the players selected for the quest.

The leader can certainly join the quest, but it is not required. Note that a player can only be assigned one team token. All players should help the leader make the right choice. Active and logical discussion is a great way to catch Mordred's agents in their web of deceit.

Voting
The leader proposes a team to go on the quest. Then the players must vote on whether they accept or reject the proposal. The leader or one of the selected players can be evil. You should not accept all proposed teams. If you reject the team, a new leader can propose a new team, hopefully without any evil players on it.

Each player, including the leader, secretly chooses one voting card. When all players have their chosen voting cards ready, the leader asks for the votes to be revealed. All voting cards are turned over so everyone can see how you voted.

The team is approved if the majority accepts. If the team is approved, the game continues in the quest phase. If the team is rejected (a tie is also a rejection), the leader passes clockwise, and the team-building phase is repeated.

The evil win the game if 5 teams are rejected in one round.

Quest phase
You have debated well and wisely selected the brave knights and ladies you trust. Now it is time to measure a person's true intent and loyalty to the noble cause that Arthur fights for. Be honest, and goodness will prevail.

The leader gives a set of Quest cards to each team member. Each player on the quest chooses a quest card and plays it face down in front of themselves. The leader collects and shuffles the played quest cards before revealing the result. The quest is only successfully completed if all the cards shown are success cards. The quest fails if a fail card has been played.

The game ends
The game can end in various ways:

  • Arthur wins if the good are able to complete 3 quests without revealing Merlin's true identity.
  • Mordred's dark forces win when 3 quests end in failure or Merlin is forced out of hiding.

The game ends immediately after either 3 successful or failed quests.
