Boosters and Displays

Magic The Gathering displays are entire, sealed boxes that contain several boosters. Displays usually contain 36 boosters for normal Magic The Gathering sets, and 24 boosters for Masters sets or similar. Check out our full range of magic cards.

Boosters, or draft boosters as they are also called, are the small foil packs that each contain 16 cards. There is a fixed distribution of cards: 10 common cards, 3 uncommon, 1 rare, 1 basic land, and 1 card that has an advertisement on one side and a token on the other. In about every eighth booster, the rare card is replaced by a mythic rare card, and in about every sixth booster, one of the common cards is replaced by a foil card, which can be of any rarity. However, there are also types of boosters that have a different distribution of content, such as Collector’s boosters.

There are many good reasons to buy booster packs. One of the most fun reasons is if you draft. Draft is a way to play Magic the Gathering, where you don't start with a finished deck, but in a group of typically 8 players, instead everyone opens a booster, picks a card, and passes the pack on. Everyone ends up making a deck of 40 cards on the spot, which they then compete with.

Besides, it's always fun to open a booster and see what cards you've got, and there's also the extra excitement of whether you might just be lucky enough to pull one of the rare cards. If you are working on many different decks, there is also always a good chance to find some less rare cards, which still fit perfectly into your deck. Booster packs are also a fun way to get a handful of new cards without having to invest in an entire display.

There are also many good reasons to buy an entire display. First and foremost, it's a really good way to get a lot of cards, especially if you've just started playing Magic the Gathering or if a new set of cards has just been released. With a display, you get a wide selection of cards and can immediately start building decks.

When you buy an entire display, you also get a significant saving compared to buying an equivalent number of boosters individually.

When you acquire a display it can of course also be used for drafting, whether it's bought specifically for drafting, or if you just want a lot of cards. If you're going to open a lot of boosters anyway, you might as well draft with them first. You can join with friends to buy a display together and just keep the cards each of you drafts. Or you can buy a display yourself and invite to draft, but then keep the cards after you are done playing.

A big part of Magic the Gathering is also the hunt for rare cards. If luck is on your side, you might pull some of the very rare cards; maybe even in the foil version? If you pull good cards from a display, you can trade or sell those you don't need, and still keep all the other cards.
