Product information

After the land has been attacked by harmful actions and aggression, the spirits have had to grow and change in an unexpected way. Whether it is water, fire, below or above, we hear your call. These white-sailed ships must turn around or capsize on the rocks of our dissatisfaction.

Fire and flood, flame and feather; ancient powers awaken to save their home. Can the island survive so much turmoil?

Note: This is an expansion and cannot be played without the base game Spirit Island.

    How to play Spirit Island:

A round in the game consists of five phases:

    1. Spirit, This phase consists of three things to be performed in the following order:
      1. Grow: In the top right corner of the Spirit panel, you can see what Growth options you have.
In the top right corner of the Spirit panel, you can see what Growth options you have.
Select one of the options in the Growth section of your Spirit panel. You determine the order of the things you need to do, but all things in the option you choose must be performed (if possible). The options are often a combination of retrieving used power cards, gaining extra energy, placing presence on the board (thus freeing up spaces on your Spirit panel) and gaining new power cards.
      2. Gain energy: You receive an amount of energy equal to the highest visible number on your Energy presence track.
      3. Play power cards: Choose the power cards (slow and fast) that you want to use in this round. The number of cards you can play is indicated by the Card plays presence track. You must pay for the cards now, but their effects occur later.

    2. Fast power, In this phase, fast powers are used, both the special inherent abilities of the nature spirits and the cards you have played. Players do this simultaneously. If timing is important, players decide which power occurs first. However, one power cannot interrupt another power.

    3. Invaders, This phase consists of four steps, in the following order:
      1. Blighted island: If the Blight card is showing the ‘Blighted Island’ side up, follow the instructions on the card.
      2. Fear: If Fear cards have been earned, flip these cards and resolve their effects one by one. Then place them in the Fear discard area. You only use the effects on the card that correspond to the current fear level. The effect of a fear card depends on how afraid the invaders are. The effect of a fear card depends on how afraid the invaders are.

      3. Invader actions: This step consists of three sub-steps:
        1. Ravage, here check if there is an Invader card on the Ravage Action field on The Invader Board.
        2. Build, here look at the Invader card on the Build Action field.
        3. Explore, here flip the top card in the Invader card deck.

    4. Slow power, In this phase, slow powers are used, both the special inherent abilities of the nature spirits and the cards you have played. The rules are the same as under fast powers.

    5. Time, This is the cleanup phase of the round. Players place all the power cards they used in the round in their private discard pile. All elements are removed, all damage dealt in the round is removed (that is, return the pieces on the island).

Players should communicate along the way and coordinate their actions. These occur simultaneously in each round.

It is the terror level that determines what the players must fulfill to win. At the beginning (terror level 1), the invaders do not fear the nature spirits at all, and they must therefore be completely eradicated from the island for the players to win. Later, the invaders learn to fear the nature spirits (the terror level rises), making it easier for the players to win. At Terror level 2, all cities and villages must be eradicated to win. At Terror level 3, all cities must be eradicated.
