HeaderMore about CarcassonneBlockText2

Carcassonne is named after the French city of the same name, which is famous for its medieval fortifications and historical monuments. The board game was first published in 2000 by German Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and has since won countless awards for its innovative gameplay experience.

The game is perfect for both children and adults and can be played by 2-5 players. For this reason, it has become a very popular family game and is ideal for a cozy evening with friends or family. If you also want to include the youngest players, you can try Carcassonne Junior. If you prefer a more complex game, there are a plethora of expansions that introduce new game mechanics and strategies to the base game.

If you are looking for a fun and challenging board game, then Carcassonne is definitely worth considering. It is a game that can be played over and over and never gets boring. So why not invite your friends or family to a game night with Carcassonne? You won't regret it!

Carcassonne Rules

Carcassonne is a so-called "tile placement game", where players take turns drawing and placing tiles with landscapes from southern France. These can be a city, a road, a monastery, grasslands, or a combination thereof. These tiles must be placed next to other tiles so that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etc.

After placing a tile, the player can then decide to place their miniature on one of the tile's areas. Once this is done, points are scored based on the type of area they are on and how large the area is. The game is easy to learn but hard to master. There are many different strategies that players can use, and the game can change drastically from turn to turn. You always end up with decisions like: "Is it really worth placing my last miniature here?" OR "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent to thwart their plans?" Although there are many choices, the game is still fast, as you can only place 1 tile and only place 1 miniature on it.

Carcassonne Variants

In addition to the basic game, there are a number of other variants of the classic Carcassonne. If you know from the start that you will be adding some of the game's many expansions, it might be a good idea to buy the Big Box version, where you get several expansions to the game from the start. There is also a luxurious 20th anniversary edition, which includes a couple of minor expansions and 15 new anniversary tiles.

If you would rather visit the savannah than southern France, you can instead go with Carcassonne Safari, where the goal is to discover as many animals as possible. There is also a cooperative variant called Mists over Carcassonne, where players must work together to restore peace in your kingdom and stop the eerie fog filled with ghosts.

No matter which version of Carcassonne you play, you are guaranteed lots of fun, strategy, and coziness. So grab your friends and explore the wonderful world of Carcassonne!
