How to play Terraforming Mars:

In Terraforming Mars, each player is an organization that must work together to make Mars habitable. However, they are also competing to earn the most victory points, which can be achieved by helping with the process, but also by carrying out other projects for the organization both on Mars and in space.

The game is played in so-called generations. In each generation, you must go through 3 important parts:
In the Research Phase, each player draws 4 project cards and can choose which ones to buy for 3M€ each.

In the Action Phase, each player can take two of the following actions:

  • Pay for a project card from their hand or a standard project
  • Buy a milestone or fund a prize
  • Use an action from a blue card
  • Spend 8 plant resources to build a greenery on the board
  • Spend 8 heat resources to raise the temperature

When player 1 has done one or two things, it is the next player's turn. When all other players have done one or two things, player 1 has the opportunity to take more actions. The turn continues until everyone has passed.

In the Production Phase, each player receives new resources corresponding to what is on the production table. When all phases are complete, the marker piece moves to the next player and the next generation begins.

When all 9 tiles have been placed on Mars, the temperature has risen to +8 degrees, and the oxygen level is at 14%, the game ends. Players finish the ongoing generation. After that, players have the opportunity, in turn, to place plant fields on Mars using plant resources. Then the points are counted. The winner is the one with the most points!
