• 16 White pieces
• 16 Black pieces

How to play Chess

The goal of the game is to create a threat against the opponent's king that cannot be avoided. This puts the opponent in checkmate, resulting in a loss for them. If neither player can win, the game is a draw, or a stalemate.

The chess pieces move as follows:

• Pawn, moves one square forward - however, they can move 2 squares forward the first time they are moved.
• Knight moves two squares forward and one to the side, forming an L shape. This applies in all directions.
• Bishop moves diagonally forward or backward. They cannot jump over other pieces.
• Rook moves vertically or horizontally. It cannot jump over other pieces.
• Queen, it can move like a rook and like a bishop. That is, it can move vertically, horizontally, or diagonally as many squares as desired. However, it cannot jump over other pieces. 
• King moves one square in any direction. 

A game of chess is lost for a player if one of the following occurs:

• The king is put in checkmate.
• If one of the players resigns from the game.
