In Odin, the goal is to get rid of your Vikings (cards) as quickly as possible! The game combines strategy, tactics, and a touch of luck, where you constantly have to assess when it is smartest to play – and when it is better to wait.
Each player starts with nine cards, and turns go in turns. The first player plays a single card, after which the others must follow with the same number or one more card – but with a higher value. If you play two or more cards, they must have the same number or color, and the value is made by putting the numbers together from highest to lowest. Example: if you play a blue 6 and a blue 3, it counts as 63.
A special challenge is that when you do not start the round, you must always take one of the cards from the previous game back into your hand, while the rest are discarded. This makes it harder to completely get rid of the cards.
A round ends when a player runs out of cards, or when all others have passed. The hands continue until a player is left with cards in only one color or one number – then the hand can be finished on the spot.
When a hand ends, all players receive penalty points for the cards they still have. The game continues until a player has 15 points or more. The winner is the player with the fewest points.
