In Oath, 1-6 players control the course of history in an ancient nation. It is up to the players themselves whether they want to strengthen the established order or work to create chaos and rebellion. Each game affects future games, and the resources and actions that players will have access to in the future can change, as well as influence how the game is resolved from session to session.
If a player exploits anarchy and chaos to seize power, future players will be faced with a nation overrun by highwaymen and power-mad warlords. In a future game, a warlord may attempt to establish a dynasty whose heirs can rule for generations, or the warlord may be crushed when a terrible magical cult takes over power.
Oath can always be reset, and it does not require a fixed playgroup. It is possible for one player to play several generations solo over the course of a week, and then use the same copy of the game for game night with friends. There are no prescribed stories or endings. The story in each copy of Oath develops as uniquely as the players who play it.
