The purpose of the games is for children to have the opportunity to see mathematics with new eyes – at their own eye level – through their interests, and to become more curious about mathematics – and to improve their mental arithmetic skills.
In the games, the children create and solve the math problems themselves when they play a card from their hand, and subsequently draw a math card from the deck. The children experience it as a more fun way to engage with mathematics.
We have turned it around a bit – we have gone to the children's level and looked at what interests they have. Soccer, animals, and fantasy have proven to be some of the biggest interests.
With that foundation, and with input from teachers, math consultants, educators, and game designers, we have developed Mathematical Soccer, Mathematical Animals, and Mathematical Fantasy, which aim to give children the belief that mathematics doesn't have to be so difficult and boring.
