Inis is a strategic board game inspired by Celtic history, myths, and legends. The game takes place on the island of Inis, where clans fight for power, influence, and recognition. The goal is not just to win battles, but to be chosen as the king of the island through wisdom, timing, and skilled leadership.
To win, you must fulfill one of three victory conditions:
Leadership: Be the leader in areas that together contain at least six of the opponents' clans
Land: Have your clans placed in at least six different areas
Religion: Have your clans in areas that together contain at least six sanctuaries
Each round starts with a gathering, where players draft four action cards. Cards that are not used in the round disappear and cannot be saved. Additionally, players can receive leader cards in the areas where they are chosen as leader. Throughout the game, players also earn epic tales, which provide powerful and thematic special abilities inspired by Irish gods and heroes.
Core elements of the game:
Cards that provide actions such as movement, building, and special abilities
Epic tales that can change the course of the game
Achievements that make it easier to fulfill victory conditions
Focus on timing, bluffing, and power balance
Limited but meaningful use of combat
Although Inis has miniatures on a board, it is not a classic war game. Excessive combat can directly harm your chances of victory. Often, peaceful coexistences arise between clans, and wise players know when it is better to wait than to attack.
The miniatures depict warriors as well as other clan members such as forest folk, shepherds, and traders. They add atmosphere and life to the game without complicating the rules.
Inis is an elegant and tactical game with depth, where the best player wins through insight, planning, and respect from the other clans – and is chosen as king, not crowned with power.
