The Russian cavalry force was Europe's largest with over sixty regiments organized into twenty cavalry divisions. The light cavalry consisted of hussars and lancers/uhlans. Like the infantry, training focused on parade maneuvers and wheel movements, with limited tactical application.
Russian dragoons retained the original role of mounted infantry, often dismounting to fight in line, whereas many other nations' dragoons functioned as pure cavalry. This is reflected in the uniform, which was almost identical to the infantry's cape and helmet.
