Beautiful puzzle from the Danish Royal Line
On the occasion of his 25th anniversary of reign, Christian 9. commissioned a grand family portrait to immortalize the Glücksburg royal family at its peak. Thanks to the skilled work of especially Queen Louise, it was possible to marry the royal couple's children into the most distinguished European royal houses – hence Christian 9.'s nickname “Europe's father-in-law”.
To keep the large family together, it was for many years a firm tradition for the Glücksburg royal family to gather at Fredensborg Castle in the summer for the so-called "Fredensborg Days". The painting is therefore also known as the Fredensborg Painting.
It took Laurits Tuxen three years to complete the impressive painting of the royal family gathered in the Garden Hall at Fredensborg Castle. In the box, you will find more exciting information about the painting and a complete overview of all the individuals.
