Beautiful puzzle from Denmark's Royal Line
Wilhelm Marstrand's impressive painting depicts the dramatic moment when the 67-year-old Christian 4th is wounded by a shell fragment aboard the Trefoldigheden and loses sight in his right eye. Despite his injuries, the king rises and inspires the crew to continue fighting.
The naval battle at Kolberger Heide ended in a draw, but it prevented Swedish troops from landing in Zealand. Three months later, however, Christian 4th suffered a stinging defeat to a Swedish-Dutch force at Femern. The majority of the Danish fleet was lost – and with it, Denmark lost its position as the leading kingdom in the North.
In the box for the puzzle, you will find more exciting information about the painting. You will also receive the lyrics to Denmark's royal song "Kong Christian stod ved højen mast," which is a direct reference to this historical moment.
