Now you finally have the opportunity to play Catan with the kids and introduce them to this fantastic game.
It resembles the original Catan, but can easily be played even if you are not familiar with the adult version.
On a ring of islands, players can build pirate hideouts and explore the mysterious haunted island where the ghost captain resides. Along the way, players receive help from the parrot Coco.
Each of the islands in Catan Junior provides its own resources in the form of wood, goats, sugar cane, and swords, which players use to acquire ships and hideouts, or to get help from Coco.
Along the way, the ghost captain appears and causes trouble. The first player to build seven hideouts wins the game.
How to play Catan Junior
Each player has a total of seven pirate hideout pieces. The winner is the one who first builds them all.
In each round, the player whose turn it is must do the following:
- Roll the dice. The outcome determines which fields yield resources.
- Make one trade. Either trade two identical resource pieces for one different piece from the stock, or trade one-to-one with the pieces in the life rings, where the selection is not always that large.
- Build pirate hideouts and pirate ships. You can build as many as you can afford.
- Buy a parrot card. The outcome is random – some cards give you resources, while others let you build a hideout or a ship completely free of charge.
This continues until one player has built all their pirate hideouts.
