Product information

Carcassonne is a tile placement game where players draw and place a tile featuring a piece of southern French landscape. The tile can have a city, a road, a monastery, grasslands, or a combination thereof, and it must be placed next to tiles that have already been played in such a way that cities connect to cities, roads to roads, etc.

After placing a tile, the player can then choose to place one of their meeples on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a monastery as a monk, or on a grass area as a farmer. When this area is completed, it scores points for its owner.

During a game of Carcassonne, players face decisions such as: "Is it really worth placing my last meeple there?" or "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent instead to make it harder for him to complete his project and score points?" As players only place one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, the rounds proceed quickly, even though it is a game full of possibilities and choices.

How to play Carcassonne:

On your turn, you must perform the following actions, in order:

  1. Draw and place a new land tile
  2. Place a man or another figure on the placed tile (optional)
  3. Score points if a road, a city, a monastery, or a cult site is completed.

You can place a man and get it back in the same turn if you thereby complete a road, a city, or a monastery. The markers are counted at the end, meaning that men on fields remain throughout the game.

The player with the most points wins the game.

Carcassonne includes:

  • 18 tiles
  • 6 extra point markers
  • 8 meeples + 1 abbot
  • 6 large meeples
