The world's best role-playing game about intrigue, mysteries, and horror!
The Great Old Ones ruled the earth eons before the rise of humanity. Traces of their ancient cities can still be found on distant islands, buried amidst the shifting desert sands and in the frozen wastelands at the poles. Originally, they came to this world from the stars. They now sleep, some deep within the earth or beneath the sea.
When the stars are right, they shall walk the earth again!
As you play the role of the steadfast investigator, you travel to strange and dangerous places, uncover unfortunate plots, and stand against the horrors of the Cthulhu Mythos. You encounter mind-blasting entities, monsters, and insane cultists. Within strange and forgotten tales, you reveal revelations that humanity was never meant to know.
You and your companions determine the fate of the world!
The Keeper Rulebook, 448 pages, contains the basic rules, background, magic, and monsters in Call of Cthulhu 7th edition. It is all you need to play the horror role-playing game Call of Cthulhu. The Keeper Rulebook is primarily intended for use by the "Keeper of Arcane Lore," aka the Keeper, or dungeon master if you will, the one who runs the scenario for the other players.
The other players - the investigators - will greatly benefit from a copy of the Investigator Handbook, which contains expanded rules for character creation, skills, occupations, equipment, and a primer on 1920's New England - the signature period for CoC RPG.
Monsters, beasts, and alien gods!
A bestiary of mythos monsters that spice up your Call of Cthulhu scenarios and campaigns. Each section contains full rules for using that monster in the game. Whether it’s a humble Mi-Go, a creepy Deep One, or the great Cthulhu himself, you will find background details, statistics, special rules, and spells to effectively send these monsters after your unfortunate investigators.
They seek and search in ancient books
Whether it’s at your local library or among the forbidden shelves of a twisted cultist, the Keeper Rulebook is a source of books that your investigators can find. Rules for reading, research, and discovering spells follow detailed descriptions of over 20 occult books, including the very Necronomicon. Each book described in the Keeper Rulebook can serve as the basis for its own story and to inspire your investigators' encounters with your very own cults.
Sanity
Complete rules for the Sanity system that sets Call of Cthulhu apart from other horror games. The Sanity system measures each investigator's capacity to comprehend the incomprehensible. It mechanizes the way the human mind can break when they discover unimaginable truths that we were never meant to uncover. For each loss of sanity, the investigators will change, and their character will shift and grow. Sanity is the backbone of narrative character development in Call of Cthulhu.
Scenarios
Two complete scenarios, with pre-generated characters, allow you to jump right into the action or start a new campaign.
Amidst the Ancient Trees - The investigators participate in a search party to find a kidnapped girl and must venture into the woods of southwestern Vermont. What they discover is far worse than they could imagine.
Crimson Letters - The death of a professor at Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts triggers a chain of events that echoes throughout the city. The investigators must solve the academic's unexplained death before things spiral out of control.
