Bolt Action: Soviet Army - Support Group (Eng)

Just like the soldiers they commanded, many Soviet officers were inexperienced and lacked training at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

Stalin's ruthless purging of the officers in the Red Army in 1937 had exposed the organization of command and left deep scars in the minds of the survivors. Throughout the war, showing initiative was seen as a dangerous trait, and most Soviet officers would follow their orders to the letter, even if it meant sending their men to their deaths.

The Soviet operational leadership improved immensely over time, but the heavy losses suffered by the Red Army indicate that overall control on the battlefield remained a blunt instrument. Great emphasis was placed on forward planning, schedules, and pre-set objectives to overcome shortcomings. An officer unit consists of one officer and can include up to two other soldiers who serve as his immediate companions. Soviet officers can be rated as inexperienced, regular, or veterans.
