KV-1 is an enormous monster of a combat vehicle. Weighing 45 tons, it was one of Russia's first heavy tanks during World War II and became famous for its almost impenetrable armor. The Germans' anti-tank weapons at the time had almost no chance of penetrating it, and only a lack of training and poor maneuverability allowed it to fall to superior German tactics.

The enormous size meant that the KV-1 could crush anything under its giant tracks, and enemy fire lines and encampments were often abandoned at the mere sight of it. Its 76.2 mm gun could still penetrate most of the German armor in 1941 – making it nearly unstoppable.

The KV-1 set the standard for what a heavy tank should be: almost invincible and fearsome to the enemy. Although it later fell somewhat out of use, it laid the foundation for the next generation of heavy tanks.
