Inspired by German self-propelled guns, the Type 4 Ho-Ro assault gun was based on an reinforced chassis from the Type 97 Chi-Ha tank. The Type 4 Ho-Ro mounted the Type 38 150mm howitzer. Around the front of the howitzer was 25 mm armor plate - the open rear made the crew vulnerable to close combat and shrapnel.
The 150mm gun primarily fired Type 88 APHE (armor-piercing high-explosive) projectiles, although it could also fire HEAT (high-explosive anti-tank) grenades. Ammunition was stored in a container at the rear of the engine deck.
Delayed in service towards the end of World War II, the Ho-Ro was used in batteries of four vehicles. It participated in combat during the Philippines campaign and during the American invasion of Okinawa, where it was heavily outmatched by American artillery resources.
Includes a plastic, resin, and metal Ho-Ro assault gun, Bolt Action stat cards, vehicle damage markers, full-color decals, and Bolt Action order dice.
