Rarely, if ever, have the words 'war' and 'comedy' been so successfully combined as in MGM's classic film from 1970, 'Kelly's Heroes'. However, the film, originally titled 'The Warriors', underwent a significant transformation from its inception to its release, including the cutting of entire scenes and characters and the addition of extended action sequences.
Several cast and crew members expressed their disapproval of the changes that transformed a more raw war film with character depth and an integrated romantic subplot into an action-packed, farcical comedy. However, the cult status that Kelly's Heroes enjoys nearly 50 years later, and the plethora of endlessly quotable lines, may be the best evidence that the final version hit the mark.
We have taken information from the film's final cut, Burt Hirschfeld's accompanying novel from 1970 of the same name (largely based on the original script), and the true story behind the units portrayed in the film, to bring a piece of Hollywood to your battlefields...
Within the film industry, the Tiger is often the 'go to' tank when depicting German tanks during World War II. Unfortunately, Tiger tanks are extremely rare, to the point where there is currently only one operational Tiger left in the world. The Yugoslav war epic 'Battle of Neretva' from 1969 found a clever solution to this by converting a number of T-34 tanks to resemble Tigers, a cost-effective film solution.
There is also a fantastic bonus in every box of Hollywood Tiger! A full-color, 8-page booklet gives each hero and vehicle their own personal theme rules to add that 'Hollywood' flair and boldness to your film-inspired games with Bolt Action.
