The most useful light artillery was often mountain guns, as these were easier to move around and could be disassembled and carried by mules if necessary. All forms of artillery would be used. The old French 75 mm field gun from World War I was one of the most common artillery pieces used by many nations at the beginning of the war, and undoubtedly a number fell into the hands of partisan forces.
