The development of fast tanks led to many ideas on how to slow down or destroy them. Large blocks of concrete, reinforced with a steel core, often called Dragon's Teeth, were a good way to block a vehicle's advance.
Similarly, infantry needed to be stopped or sent away, so engineers on all sides were kept busy constructing wooden and steel frames that contained long rolls of barbed wire, solid enough to keep all but the most determined soldiers at bay.
