The Battle of France
The Matilda II fought in the battle of France, which would become a general retreat. However, Matildas created problems for the Germans, whose 37 mm and 50 mm anti-tank guns were simply too small in caliber to penetrate the Matilda's thick armor.
The Western Desert
Perhaps the A12 Matilda II is more synonymous with the fierce battles in the desert, where it would meet its match, in the fight against the infamous 88s from the Afrika Korps.
The Far East
Later, as they became more and more outdated compared to the later German vehicles, many were sent to the Far East, where they faced Japanese tanks that were much lighter.
It was the only British tank that remained in active service throughout the war.
