In the Warhammer Age of Sigmar universe, we are in a fantasy world where war rages and where chaos marks planets, continents, and peoples. But as the world has suffered under Chaos for a long time, the god-king Sigmar emerges from his hiding as a hope for the survivors, and here begins Warhammer Age of Sigmar. If you want to read a little more about the different factions in AoS, you can click through to the subpages, where you also find the miniatures belonging to each faction. In AoS, there are four major factions, called Grand Alliances. Each alliance fights for a series of common goals, but each faction has its own goals in the universe's war.

Grand alliances in Warhammer Age of Sigmar:
Order (order): fights against Chaos to preserve nature, art, learning, and civilization. But the individual AoS factions often have their own goal, which sometimes goes beyond some of their allies.
Chaos (chaos): Here we have the alliance that does as they please and tries to take over the entire AoS universe. Chaos serves the four Chaos gods.
Death (death): Death fights against Chaos, like Order, but the similarities also quickly end. Death's purpose in defeating Chaos is to take over power themselves.
Destruction (destruction): Destruction is driven by their own interests, the love of a good fight, or simply survival. They are unpredictable and opportunistic.

Games Workshop has found a worthy successor to the game Warhammer Fantasy Battle with Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The first rulebook for Warhammer Age of Sigmar thus replaced Warhammer Fantasy in 2015 and since then the second edition of the rules, released in 2018, has taken over. Something that generally applies to Warhammer miniature games is that Games Workshop is very good at creating the settings for the game, so AoS also has a lot of backstories (lore) that exist in the rulebooks and in other literature that precedes the universe. Thus, Warhammer Age of Sigmar is much more than a game, it is a hobby, an entire universe.
