In the Warhammer 40K universe, we are in a wild future, in the year 40000. In this future, there are not only humans but also a kind of elves and orcs and some races that resemble aliens more than anything we know from fantasy. If you want to learn more about the different factions in 40K, you can click through to the subpages and see the miniatures and read a bit about each 40K faction. The Warhammer 40000 universe is dark and grim and the various 40K factions are in open war with each other most of the time. It is this war you become a part of when you acquire your own army in Warhammer 40000.

Games Workshop has been making miniatures for role-playing games for a long time, but it was not until the release of the first 40K rulebook in 1987 that their miniature department really became successful. For they had just met a need among hobby painters and game enthusiasts. If you are a dedicated 40K fan, there are plenty of hours, days, weeks, and years of entertainment, and that's just looking at the miniatures alone. There is also a lot of literature written in the universe, so even in the rulebooks, there is plenty of background story to find. Some enter the Warhammer 40000 universe because they enjoy painting the beautiful miniatures, others because they find the game exciting, and others because they are captivated by the compelling stories.

We also have ongoing tournaments in 40K, including the popular escalation leagues, where you start with a small detachment of Warhammer 40000 miniatures, which you can then add more units to, along the way.
