The goal of the game is to be the first to collect all six colors of "cheeses" by answering questions from the various categories. The original categories are geography, entertainment, history, art and literature, science, and sports and leisure. Over the years since the first game was released, a plethora of other Trivial Pursuit games with different themes and corresponding categories such as Family or Harry Potter editions have been published.

Trivial Pursuit Rules

In Trivial Pursuit, players compete to be the fastest to collect all six "cheese" pieces and reach the center of the game board. Below you will find a brief overview of the game:

• Prepare the game board and place all players' pieces in the center of the board.
• The game proceeds in turns, where each player rolls a die and moves their piece a corresponding number of spaces according to the result of the die roll.
• Another player reads a question aloud that corresponds to the category the player whose turn it is lands on. If the question is answered correctly, the player may continue their turn.
• If the player lands on one of the major topic spaces and answers the question correctly, they also get the corresponding "cheese" piece,
• If the question is answered incorrectly, their turn ends.
• The game continues until a player has collected a piece from each of the six categories and reaches the middle of the game board.
• When a player gets back to the middle, they must answer a final question. If they answer correctly, they win the game; if not, the game continues until a winner is found.
