Another aspect that makes Topps cards especially sought after is the many special cards. Among these are so-called "matchworn" cards, which incorporate parts of a player's jerseys or shoes as part of the cards. Some of these cards are potentially worth a lot of money, making it even more exciting to open a pack of Topps cards!

How do you collect Topps football cards?

There are many ways to collect cards and with the great variety among Topps cards, there is ample opportunity to tailor your collection to exactly your needs. The most common way to collect is to collect full sets of cards. Each year, Topps releases different sets of cards based on different leagues, tournaments, or teams – the goal is to collect all the cards in a given series.

This is the most tangible way to start, as you often collect from one of the newer series and therefore many cards are in circulation, making it easier to buy card packs, but also to find other collectors who are ready to trade cards.

If you are instead a super fan of a specific player or team, you can instead aim to collect cards with these. This can be a bit more challenging, as cards with certain players can be quite rare. Fortunately, Topps has created a series of team sets that only contain cards from specific football teams. This makes it much easier to get started if you, for example, want to collect cards with Manchester City players.

What series of Topps football cards are there?

If you are new to Topps collector cards, then the Match Attax series is a really good place to start. Here you can also get a cool starter pack that includes a collector's folder, so you can keep track of which cards you are missing. From here, you can add to your collection with booster packs to expand it.

• Match Attax - A good series for children and beginners. The cards are cheaper than many of Topps' other series, but here you can also find rare autograph cards.

• Knockout - This series focuses on the knockout phase of the Champions League and therefore only contains cards from the top 16 teams in the league.

What are some of the most valuable Topps football cards?

Since Topps produces some very unique football cards, there are also several of them that are quite rare and thus valuable. Cards with autographs are always worth keeping an eye on. The same goes for matchworn cards and numbered cards. Numbered cards denote cards that have only been printed in a small number and have been marked with for example 36/500 (i.e., this is card number 36 out of 500). The fewer cards printed, the more the card is worth – cards marked as x/5 or 1/1 are therefore VERY rare.
