Star Realms is a deckbuilding game similar to Ascension, Thunderstone Advance, and Legendary: Marvel. In deckbuilding games, each player starts with their own small stack of basic cards, which are used to acquire new cards from those available on the table. On the table, there are five different cards featuring spaceships, space stations, and planets, and each round players play their entire hand to acquire new cards among those available and to attack the opponent and their space stations and planets.

Star Realms is a fast-paced deckbuilding game for two dueling players, each building their own star fleet from four different nations, each with their unique characteristics. The balance in the game lies in getting the fleets' special abilities into play by having the right combinations of cards.
