HeaderAbout Card GamesBlockText2

Different types of card games have existed as long as we know. Even before the time of paper, when the "cards" were just made of materials like wood or stone (such as Domino and Rummikub). A deck of cards consists of 52 cards, divided into 4 suits of 13 cards each: spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds. Usually, a number of jokers are also included. This setup is based on the traditional "French" card games, but there are also other versions like the Spanish one with 48 cards or the German one with just 36. These sets of playing cards also have different suits; for example, the German uses acorns, leaves, hearts, and bells.

All the cards you find in Card Collective are, however, the classic French ones. The cards in a deck are identical on one side and different from each other on the front. Card games are games of chance, in the sense that not all information is available to the players, for example, you often do not know which card you will draw next in a game of cards.

Design

Here on the page, you can find cards in a multitude of designs and with many different brands. Whether you are into sci-fi, fantasy, or comics, you can find a deck of cards that suits your needs. We have cards from the most popular franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.

Card Sizes

Among our selection of card games, you will find cards in both bridge and poker sizes. Most people in Denmark use cards in a bridge size, measuring 57 x 89 mm. However, in many other parts of the world, it is more common to use cards in poker size. These measure 64 x 89 mm and are the most common size for, for example, Bicycle cards.

Card Quality

The quality of a set of playing cards is closely related to the materials they are made of and the surface treatment they have received. Generally, when talking about card quality, there are three factors to consider: the material of the cards, texture, and coating.

  • Material. When looking at materials, cards made of paper are often of better quality than plastic cards. Then you can look at how thick the cards are. Thicker cards like Bicycle are usually more durable, but are heavier to handle. Thinner cards like, for example, Tally-Ho are not as durable, but are more flexible and therefore well suited for Cardistry stunts.
  • Texture. When talking about texture, the term "finish" is also often used. This covers whether the surface of the cards is soft, rough, or otherwise treated. Bicycle, for example, is known for their "air-cushion finish", where the surface of the cards contains small "pockets" that minimize friction and make the cards smoother and easier to handle. Cheap cards often do not have any texture treatment and are therefore significantly harder to handle.
  • Coating. Most cards are given a coating that helps with the cards' durability, water resistance, and often affects how smooth the cards end up being. Most Bicycle cards have a "Magic Finish" that makes them noticeably smoother than ordinary card games. This is perfect if you need the cards for cardistry or magic tricks, but it can feel too smooth if you just want to play cards with them.
At Card Collective, we can help you figure out which deck of cards is right for you. We are happy to share our experience with different card games and also offer good advice.
