HeaderMore about PokémonBlockText2

Pokémon is a contraction of 'Pocket Monsters'. It is a Japanese media franchise founded by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures and created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995. Pokémon revolves around fictional creatures called Pokémon, which humans—better known as Pokémon trainers—try to capture and train for battles against each other.

The Beginning

Pokémon started as a Game Boy game but was subsequently adapted to various other media, including a trading card game, an anime TV series, books, movies, games for various consoles, toys, manga comics, music, clothing, a theme park, merchandise, and so on. Today, Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise ever, and Pokémon cards are among the best-selling card games in the world.

Pokémon Trading Card Game

The popular Pokémon Trading Card Game, which completely took the world by storm, was released outside Asia in 1999. Fans both play and collect individual Pokémon cards. The goal of the card game closely resembles the Pokémon battles central to the video games. Capturing, training, and battling are all recurring themes in the Pokémon card game.

In the roles of Pokémon trainers, players use their Pokémon cards, each with different strengths and weaknesses, to try to defeat their opponent by knocking out their Pokémon. Pokémon are played on the table to attack the opponent's Pokémon, and when a Pokémon has taken enough damage, it is knocked out. The player who knocked out the Pokémon may take a Prize card. There are several ways to win the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Primarily, one can win by collecting all (usually) six Prize cards. Another way to win is by knocking out all of the opponent's Pokémon, so they have none left on the table, or if the opponent at the start of their turn has no more cards left in their deck.

The Different Cards

There are several different types of cards. Basic Pokémon are the cornerstone of all decks. Without them, the game cannot be played. All these Pokémon cards have a name, a type, and a certain number of Health Points. All Pokémon have unique attacks they can use against the opponent. Most attacks require energy, which is obtained in the form of Energy Cards. Another type of card is Trainer Cards, which can affect the game in various ways. The different types of Pokémon include grass, fire, water, and electric. These types have advantages and disadvantages against each other. For example, water is strong against fire.

Would you like to collect Pokémon cards? Maybe you already do. There is a big difference in how coveted and rare a card is. If there is a circle in the bottom corner of the card, it is a common card. If there is a diamond, it is an uncommon card. Finally, a star means it is a rare card. Additionally, there are full-art Pokémon cards, which are also very valuable.

Pokémon cards are one of the franchises we at Card Collective love the most! Therefore, we always have a large selection of decks, boosters, and various accessories for the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
