Marvel

Heroism in abundance, bulging biceps, and supernatural superpowers! Is the Marvel franchise your kryptonite? Here you will find all the products based on Marvel's fantastic and beloved superhero universe!

HeaderLearn more about the Marvel universeBlockText2

Marvel began as the American superhero comics Marvel Comics, owned by Marvel Publishing Inc., a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment Inc. Today, The Walt Disney Company owns the rights to publish Marvel, having acquired Marvel's parent company Marvel Entertainment Inc. in 2009.

Marvel's History

Marvel started in 1939 and was founded by Martin Goodman. The Marvel universe is thus over 80 years old today. The first real editor of the magazine was Joe Simon, and together with comic book legend Jack Kirby, they created the first – and very patriotic – superhero, Captain America, in 1941.

Marvel became truly popular after 1961, which is the year The Fantastic Four and other superhero titles were released. Here, it was Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Steve Ditko who were behind the stories.

Superheroes You Know

The Marvel universe includes well-known superheroes such as:

  • Spider-Man
  • Iron Man
  • Captain America
  • The Hulk
  • Thor
  • Wolverine
  • Ant-Man
  • The Wasp
  • Black Widow
  • Captain Marvel
  • Black Panther
  • Doctor Strange
  • Ghost Rider
  • Blade
  • Daredevil
  • The Punisher
  • Deadpool

Additionally, there are also teams of superheroes such as The Avengers, The X-Men, Fantastic Four, and The Guardians of the Galaxy. Among the most famous Marvel villains in our selection are likely Doctor Doom, Magneto, Thanos, Loki, The Green Goblin, Kingpin, The Red Skull, Ultron, Mandarin, MODOK, Doctor Octopus, Kang, Dormammu, Venom, Galactus, and many others.

The Marvel Universe

Most of the Marvel characters appear in a reality simply known as 'the Marvel universe', which, however, closely resembles places from the real world we know – for example, several of the characters are based in what could very well have been New York City. One thing Marvel became very known for was its focus on characterizing the heroes. Marvel superheroes often looked a bit more nerdy, were not as attractive, and had few or no friends. This was in stark contrast to the idea of the perfect, beautiful, and athletic hero from traditional comics, and in this way, Marvel Comics could stand out in the market. An example is the superhero Spider-Man, where we follow the young teenage hero Peter Parker through his insecurities and challenges in everyday life.

Marvel in Game Form

Since the beginning of the comic series, Marvel characters and stories have been adapted to many other media, and today it is a widely spread franchise. Just to name a few, there have been various games (both digital and analog), a Trading Card Game, miniatures, role-playing games, movies, TV series, novels, and theme parks.

In our product range, there are always various games – both unique and classics – and Funko Pop! miniatures with a Marvel theme to be found. Marvel's thoroughly iconic and incredible universe is one of the cornerstones of Card Collective's product range, so here you will find many great options to expand your collection of Marvel items.
