Leagues of Votann

Hardy and independent, clever, lively, and greedy, 'The Kin' are descendants of asteroid miners and prospectors who settled the ultra-dangerous galactic core regions long before the emergence of the Imperium of Man.

You can read about all the other factions in Warhammer 40k here.

Leagues of Votann miniatures
The modular design of Kin weapons and the layered armor plates of Exo Armour technology, have previously been seen on House Van Saar miniatures, something Necromundan gangers can only create using a secret, highly radioactive STC system.

Ûthar the Destined
Ûthar the Destined, a magnificent Kâhl (leader) described by GW as the "most accomplished hero from the Greater Thurian League". His neat sword is called Blade of the Ancestors.

Kâhl
Built from the same set as Ûthar, but with a few different weapon and bits options, Kâhl is your main HQ character unit, something akin to a Space Marine captain. They are the nominated war leader for a given Kindred (specific, named groups of Kin in a larger League).

Hearthkyn Warriors
Hearthkyn Warriors – the first Leagues of Votann miniatures ever shown – will form the core of your armies. Squads of up to 20 hardy warriors will be led into battle by their Theyns. Their void armor is reportedly the same as Astartes power armor, and their weapons are better than the finest creations of Mars disciples. Although they are adapted and trained for war, unlike Space Marines, Hearthkyn have a life outside of combat.

Sagitaur
Hearthkyn squads can be transported into battle on Sagitaur all-terrain vehicles. They operate in pairs and pack heavy weapons, supporting their passenger-infantry patrols with anti-tank or anti-personnel fire as they disembark.

Hernkyn Pioneers
As the League's main Fast Attack unit, Hernkyn Pioneers ride into war on hovering motor-trikes, with shotguns, saddlebags, and dustcoats.

Cthonian Beserks
These are your powerful close-combatants. Cthonian Beserks use high-tech mining equipment such as heavy plasma axes and concussion mauls, which they wield to destructive effect in close combat.

Einhyr Hearthguard
In the heavyweight category, Einhyr Hearthguard wear Exo-Armour suits that make Terminator and Gravis armors look like a light windbreaker. These folks are very good evidence of the idea that Warhammer 40k is about an evil look and big shoulders.

Einhyr Champion
The fearsome Einhyr Champion, described by GW as "living battering rams" dressed in "modified exo-armor equipped with mass-drivers", appears to be your second HQ character choice.

Brôkhyr Thunderkyn
Brôkhyr Thunderkyn are your dedicated heavy gunners armed with the very dangerously sounding SP Conversion Beamer and wearing exo-frames.

Brôkhyr Iron-master
Any good dwarf faction needs a master of the forge with a big hammer – in the Leagues of Votann, this role falls to Brôkhyr Iron-master, who comes to war accompanied by an Ironkin assistant and a flock of ECOG repair drones.

Grimnyr
Do the Leagues of Votann have psykers? Yes! The Grimnyr are somewhat like a techno-psyker; they have a special cloned trait that allows them to interact with the warp, but they also use 'barrier technology' (including special AI drones called CORVs) to make it safer. It is also the task of each league's Grimnyr to interface with its Votann Ancestor Core using mysterious technology.

Hekaton Land Fortress
Apparently a modern recreation of the Squats' trademark Land Train from days of old, the Hekaton Land Fortress is a large void-armored heavy tank with a large high-tech gun, several extra gun turrets, and a 12-model transport capacity.

Leagues of Votann codex
The Kin's power has been unleashed, with 104 pages of Leagues of Votann history and rules, bringing this long-awaited faction into the 41st millennium.

The book includes a complete list of datasheets, stratagems, warlord traits, and relics that give your new army the power it needs to make a name for itself on the battlefield. While in-depth Crusade rules lead your Kinhost on a bold quest for resources across the galaxy.

League of Votann lore
We know that much of the history of old-school Squats has been transferred to Warhammer 40k's brand new Leagues of Votann. Like Squats, Leagues are descendants of early human space colonists and prospectors, who settled in the mineral-rich galactic core. But there are some important differences.

The Kin, who make up the Leagues, are a cloned race. All Kin are genetically spliced to be stronger, tougher, and shorter than the human baseline, and generally to be resistant to the effects of the warp.

The race is divided into specialized Cloneskeins: stable mutations with traits for radiation resistance, quick reactions, or the psychic sensitivity needed to operate trans-Warp technology. The Kin's genome must have been reworked at the same time as human culture created the Navigator houses, but Cloneskeins are far more stable than their imperial equivalent.

Kin society is organized around the Leagues - powerful trade and defense alliances between multiple Kindreds and their Holds - and the guilds, professional organizations of technicians, merchants, and engineers that unite the Kin community.

The Leagues and guilds guard many secrets, but they are not nearly as xenophobic as the Imperium: The Seran-Tok Mercantile Leagues have actually made a fortune trading with the T'au.

Genetic manipulation, trading with Xenos... The Leagues would make a monodominant inquisitor very nervous. They also have secrets that would enchant and horrify the Adeptus Mechanicus. The Leagues practice the forbidden art of science.

Their technology is more advanced than anything else in the Imperium and uses Standard Template Construct (STC) systems and many years of research and development. This includes Ion weapons, a technology they generously gave to the T'au, and even artificial intelligence.

You read that right - Kin are not just flesh and blood. Ironkin are fully integrated and autonomous members of the Leagues. The history of the Leagues has been lost to the mists of time, but Ironkin have always been with them.
