Getting Started: Warhammer 40K

Now that you've finally decided to play Warhammer 40,000, where should you actually start? You can always visit Card Collective in Aalborg for advice and guidance, but we have also gathered some Warhammer 40,000 products here that make a lot of sense for new players.

The first thing you need to decide is which army you want to play with. Will it be the disciplined Space Marines, the battle-hungry Orks, or perhaps something entirely different? With over 20 different Warhammer 40,000 armies to choose from, there's plenty of options. Each army has a wide range of different units, and each has its unique way of playing. You can choose based on the style of play that suits you best, or you can choose the army with the appearance you simply like the most. You decide!

Start Box
A start box contains everything you need to quickly get started playing Warhammer 40,000. You get 2 different armies, the basic rules, and rules for the units included in the box. Start boxes are a really good place to start playing Warhammer 40,000, especially if you start playing with a friend, as you can each have your own army from the box. The 2 armies are intended as a starting point to build more on over time. Start boxes contain everything you need, at a fantastic price. However, not all armies are represented in a start box.

Start Collecting
Each army in Warhammer 40,000 has its own Start Collecting box. In the box, you typically get 3-4 units and a leader. There aren't enough miniatures to play a full game of Warhammer 40,000, but it's a good place to start if you just want to try out the game. To have a complete army, you need to add extra miniatures. The advantage is that you can freely choose exactly the units you think fit best into your new army.

Battleforce
In the Battleforce boxes, you get a complete Warhammer 40,000 army for about 1000 points. With a Battleforce, you are ready to face your opponents without needing to buy more miniatures. This army lets you immediately play real battles, but as you become more experienced, you can always consider acquiring new units, so your army is tailored to your personal play style. Moreover, you get a great saving, compared to if you had to buy the same miniatures individually.

Come and join us
Every Wednesday, we hold a hobby/miniature evening at Card Collective. We provide rooms and tables, and you can sit and enjoy assembling and painting your army with other friendly hobby enthusiasts, who gladly share their experience in miniature painting. You can also find an opponent and take a battle. The store also has gaming mats and terrain for free use, so you can really bring your Warhammer 40,000 battle to life.
