The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney under the name Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. The company established itself as a leader in American animation before also expanding into feature films, TV productions, and amusement parks.

In 1928, Walt Disney came up with the idea for a small miniature that would turn out to be a huge success, namely Mickey Mouse. The first cartoon starring Mickey was an instant success - not least because it was the first cartoon with synchronized sound. Disney continued to produce cartoons with Mickey and also introduced many new miniatures.

Disney continued to experiment and push the boundaries of what could be done with animation. In 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered. It was the first animated film to be full-length like a feature film. The production took three years, and the result was a gigantic milestone for both Disney and animation in general.

Ever since, Disney has continued to produce both short cartoons and long animated films. Their interpretation of many classic fairy tales has led to a series of Disney princesses, which can be said to have become a brand in itself. Ariel, the Little Mermaid, Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty, and many more.

Today, The Walt Disney Company is, in terms of revenue, the largest media conglomerate in the world. Disney owns, among others, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, and Searchlight Pictures.
