HeaderMore about DigimonBlockText2

Digimon, a contraction of Digital Monsters, is a Japanese media franchise that started as a manga comic but later was commercially marketed in a range of products, including toys in the form of virtual pets, anime, video games, movies, and a trading card game.

What is Digimon?

Digimon was created in 1997 by Akiyoshi Hongo and revolves around the Digimon monsters that inhabit a digital world; a kind of parallel universe originating from Earth's various communication networks. The story is that the so-called digi-chosen humans must raise the Digimon monsters and form a team, which must try to defeat the evil Digimon intent on destroying the digital world.

The Digimon Universe

Digimon hatch from digi-eggs and evolve through a process called 'digivolving'. When a Digimon digivolves, it changes appearance and gains increased physical powers. There can be a big difference in how tame a Digimon is, but most possess human intelligence, speaking abilities, and unique personality traits. If a Digimon is separated from its trainer, it will gradually lose its strength. When a Digimon dies, it dissolves into data fragments and is reborn anew as a digi-egg.

Digimon Card Game

The Digimon card game was re-released in a new edition in 2020. The Digimon Card Game is what is known as a trading card game, where you strategically build your deck, hence you can 'trade' – exchange – specific cards. Each player has a Digimon in the battle arena, which must fight against the opponent's Digimon. The player's Digimon digivolves throughout the game and thus becomes stronger and gains new powers. You win the game by reducing your opponent's Security Area cards to zero and delivering the final death blow. To play the game, you need a Digimon deck – a complete set of cards. If you are a completely new player, it is recommended that you start with a pre-built Starter Deck. You can also always buy individual booster packs to assemble an even stronger and more unique set of cards to play with.

At Card Collective, we had no doubt that we wanted to be part of it from the start when the new edition of the Digimon card game was released in Denmark in 2020. The card game quickly sold out in the first round, and that says a lot about how sought after it is among Digimon and Trading Card Game fans in Denmark. We look forward to much more Digimon in the future!
