Alien: The Roleplaying Game

Space is vast, dark, and definitely not your friend. Gamma rays and neutrino bursts erupt from dying stars to cook you alive, while black holes try to tear you apart and the very vacuum boils your blood and clutches at your brain. You try to scream, but no one can hear you - hold your breath, and you'll burst your lungs. Now, you can step into the grim universe of ALIEN and try to escape alive from the horrifying xenomorphs.

HeaderMore about Alien: The Roleplaying GameBlockText2

Space is not as empty as you think - its boundaries are constantly expanding. Rival governments wage a cold war, while greedy corporations battle for valuable resources. Colonists move among the stars, gambling with their lives - each new world tamed could either lead to a jackpot or to famine. There are things lurking in the shadows of every asteroid - strange, indescribable, and deadly things.

This is the official ALIEN tabletop role-playing game - a universe filled with horror, where synthetic humans play god, while space truckers and marines host newborn creatures. It's a harsh and unforgiving universe, where you can easily be replaced.

The game can be played in two different ways:

  • Cinematic, based on scenarios that mimic the ALIEN movies. It is designed to be played in a single session and emphasizes high stakes and fast, brutal gameplay. Not everyone is likely to survive. The core book includes a complete cinematic campaign.
  • Campaign, designed to be played over a longer period with the same group, allowing you to freely explore the ALIEN universe. The core book includes multiple tables and other tools to create star systems, colonies, missions, encounters, and NPCs for your campaign.

The game's rules are based on the acclaimed Year Zero Engine, used in award-winning games like Tales from the Loop and Mutant: Year Zero, but adapted and further developed to support and enhance the core themes of ALIEN: horror and action in the cold darkness of space.

The game unfolds like a kind of verbal improvised drama. Here, players create their own characters and, in collaboration with a Game Master (in ALIEN called "Game Mother"), create a story with the players' characters in the leading roles. It is the Game Mother's role to control the rest of the characters and aliens the players meet, as well as to create and deepen the planets and locations the players visit. It is important to keep in mind that the player and Game Mother are not against each other even though the Game Mother controls the game's enemies. Tabletop role-playing games like ALIEN are primarily about creating an exciting narrative together.
