In addition to featuring updated graphics and an updated rule set, this second edition of A Game of Thrones includes elements from the A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords expansions, including ports, garrisons, Wildling cards, and Siege engines, while introducing new elements such as player screens and Tides of Battle cards.

Tides of Battle cards are an optional mechanism that introduces an element of unpredictability, which can be factors like weather, morale, and tactical opportunities. During each battle, both players draw a Tides of Battle card from a common deck, and its value changes the strength of the player's chosen card. Moreover, such a card can also contain icons that may affect the outcome of the battle... all of which deliver a new level of intensity to your battles.
