But your opponents are clever too.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eHow to play Catan\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eTo start the game, we build the game board using hexagonal terrain pieces. Catan is born - a beautiful island with mountains, pastures, hills, fields, and forests, surrounded by the sea.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEach player places two small houses on spaces where three terrain hexagons meet. They are your starting settlements. And then it begins. You roll two dice. An “11”! Each terrain hexagon is marked with a number. Each player who owns a settlement adjacent to a piece of terrain marked with the same number as rolled receives a resource produced by that hexagon.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHills produce bricks, forests produce timber, mountains produce iron ore, fields produce grain, and pastures produce wool. You use these resources to expand across Catan: You build roads and new settlements, or you upgrade your existing settlements to cities. For example, a road costs 1 brick and 1 timber. If you do not have the necessary resources, you can acquire them by trading with your opponents.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEach settlement is worth 1 victory point, and each city is worth 2 victory points.
